INFO FROM A STATE TROOPER....PLEASE READ!!!!!

A woman said her son found his license plate missing so he called the police to file a report. They told him people were stealing the plates to get free gas. Given the rise in gas prices, people have taken to stealing license plates, putting them on their car, then getting gas and running. The gas station will have "your" license plate # and you could be in trouble for "pump and run." Check your car periodically to be sure you still have a plate. If you should find it missing, file a report immediately!!! Keep an eye on your license plate! Make sure you always know it's there! When the license plate is reported as the "drive off vehicle", it's YOU they contact! Be aware!!!! Be aware of your license plates, most of us never look to see if the plates are there or not. :fingertap: :fingertap:

I don't know how that's possible. Every pump in my area requires cash or a credit/debit to activate it.

Might not be a hoax but I think it's not as prevalent as made out.

A few around here make you pay 1st which I'm not gonna do. If they all start to do it will cost them. I'll use my debit card and only get a couple dollars at a time so they have to pay the fee mutable times. I maybe could see at night since that is when it happens most. I have a police scanner and drive offs aren't up much. I might hear 1 a night. The county sheriff is the one that takes the call and I can hear for 4 towns.

has been reported here inthe Twin Cities..we still have cash payment after pumping here...probably not for long..alot of the pump farther away from the cashiers are credit or prepay already...but that may change to all prepay or credit...:pullhair:

yup were the same way over here in illinois spidy.......and if ur license plate is not clearly visible (i watched this happen @ a bp) they will either ask u to verify (show them) the plate...if u do not..they will not turn on the pump unless they can clearly see ur plate :woohoo:....no free gas here!
